Did you know the King William Street bridge—crossed daily by footy fans heading to Adelaide Oval—has a plaque dating back to 1877?
Opened by Sir W.W. Cairns, with Mayor Caleb Peacock and Town Clerk Thomas Warsnop, the original plaque was salvaged from the earlier structure and preserved as a tribute to Adelaide’s beginnings.
The bridge that stands today was built between May 1924 and February 1929—a proud symbol of progress connecting the city and North Adelaide.
Next time you're walking or riding across, take a moment to spot the plaque and reflect on the stories beneath your feet.
