As promised, we’re taking you on the journey of growing 600 Australian native trees from seed! Today, let’s shine the spotlight on one of our stars: Acacia argyrophylla, also known as silver mulga!
Seed to Life!
Here’s where it all started on 24/11/2024—the seed packet before planting. Today, we’re excited to show you these tiny shoots beginning their journey to becoming full-fledged trees!
With a South Australian heatwave over the past two days, these little ones needed some extra TLC.
How We Did It:
Placed seeds in a mug & poured boiled water.
Soaked for 12 hours overnight.
Strained & sowed seeds in prepped soil tubes.
Added gravel for protection & started watering 2-3x daily.
Covered with shade cloth for their early stages.
Keeping them hydrated in this heatwave has been crucial for their success!
Behind the Scenes
Here’s a peek:

Tiny shoots breaking through the soil—life is happening!
These 60 seedlings are on their way to becoming thriving Acacia argyrophylla shrubs.
Did you know?
Acacia argyrophylla is a compact, spreading shrub native to South Australia . It has lance-shaped phyllodes (modified leaf stems that act like leaves), which are perfectly adapted to hot, dry conditions. Its phyllodes are long, narrow, and pointed—ideal for water conservation!
We’ve added a photo of Acacia argyrophylla in bloom for you to enjoy on our facebook & instagram—look at those gorgeous golden-yellow flowers! ( Thanks to @SeedsOfSA for some of the info)
What’s Next?
As these seedlings grow, we’ll remove the shade cloth and keep up the care until they’re strong enough to thrive on their own.
We absolutely love growing these trees voluntarily with @Trees for Life SA, who do an amazing job supplying us with seeds, materials, information, and support. Their guidance helps make projects like this possible!
At Adelaide Style Accommodation we’re passionate about being environmentally friendly and contributing to South Australia’s future—creating habitats for animals, birds, and insects while ensuring a greener world for generations to come.
Keep an eye out for next week’s update, where we’ll share more about the other species we’re growing!
